In the past year, BBB serving Southern Nevada has received over 166 complaints against local company, Waka Network. Based on a pattern of consumer complaints, consumers report that after filling out an online survey, they received phone calls stating they had "won" a variety of gift cards. In order to redeem the merchandise, they were instructed to enter their personal and financial information into the company’s website where they were charged $2.99 to receive the gift cards.
Consumers report never receiving the gift cards and state the company makes multiple debits from their accounts without authorization. Other consumers allege the company calls them on a weekly basis, even though they instruct them to stop calling and claim they would not like to participate.
“Waka Network has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau for failing to respond to complaints,” states Katie Robison, spokesperson for BBB serving Southern Nevada. “BBB requested that the company provide a ‘plan of action’ on how they would eliminate the issues outlined in the complaints, however, the company ignored our requests.”
Consumers are seeking refunds and for the calls to stop. The company has responded to some complaints apologizing for the harassing phone calls, and in many cases, provides consumers a refund and puts them on their Do Not Call list.
Robison added, “When consumers choose to participate in online or telephone surveys they must always be vigilant and ask questions. They must be extremely cautious when asked to provide personal or financial information.”
