Local BBB Investigation
Local Consumers Steamed over Carpet Cleaner's Sales Tactics

According to a pattern of consumer complaints, Las Vegas Stainmasters offers room and upholstery cleaning specials and then fails to honor the quoted price.  Consumers claim that upon arrival, the company uses high pressure sales tactics to try and up-sell consumers into purchasing additional services and chemical treatments.

“I had a coupon to get my loveseat and sofa cleaned for $49.99,” said a Henderson consumer.  “The technician came, started to clean my sofa, and then told me the sofa needed a deep clean that would cost me $435.  He refused to honor the coupon and left my home leaving the sofa worse off than when he arrived.”

The company’s website advertises 4 rooms for $59, but one Las Vegas consumer claims once the company was in their home, the price rose to $326.69.  “They finally agreed to honor the original $59 price, and then cleaned all four rooms in 20 minutes.  We told them they still looked dirty to which they replied ‘You should have paid the $326 if you wanted it to look nice.’  All we want now is a refund.”

On January 23, 2013, BBB wrote the company regarding their advertising and sales practices.   The company responded claiming their advertisements do specifically state all restrictions regarding their special offers.  On January 31, 2013, BBB wrote the company again, providing them copies of their website and Valpak ad that do not list restrictions.  BBB is awaiting a response.

“We have found that businesses that advertise in a clear and concise manner tend to have repeat customers,” said George Cartwright, President and CEO of BBB serving Southern Nevada.  “In this scenario, due to the pattern of complaints against this company’s advertisements, there’s clearly a miscommunication issue.”

The company has responded to complaints stating it’s impossible to give an exact price before seeing the condition of the carpet.  According to complainants, they refuse to offer refunds.
